Congratulations to Avanti Architects for winning the Mail on Sunday British Homes Awards Tomorrow’s Lifestyle Home Competition, sponsored by Velux and supported by the National Centre for Excellence in Housing. The Avanti House will be built by Crest Nicholson and will set new standards of quality in the design of sustainable housing developments – a timely contribution to the sustainable housing agenda and specifically to the Government’s Ecotown proposals.
Avanti House was selected by Mail on Sunday readers from a shortlist of ten finalists and the result announced by Housing Minister Caroline Flint to a packed awards ceremony at the London Marriot Hotel on 20 June.
Key features of the Avanti House include:
• adaptable spaces for successive generations as their needs change
• opportunities for customisation to suit each householder
• a spatially varied interior that is a pleasure to live and work in
• full adaptability and access for people with disabilities
• sustainable passive means of saving energy and resources
• easy to upgrade servicing systems as new energy saving technologies become available
Crest Nicholson will be working closely with Avanti Architects to build the house on one of its sites next year. As with last year’s competition, which incubated the Barratt Green House by Gaunt Francis Architects, the National Centre for Excellence in Housing will be actively supporting the partners who take forward this year’s competition winner.
